Mumbling Mommy

With so many of us spending all our time at home, we’re having to come up with strategies to make ourselves feel good that don’t involve going outside. But it’s not always easy. You’re stuck inside the same four walls every day. It can feel a little claustrophobic – especially if you have kids!

It turns out, though, that there are several science-backed ways to feel better at home. Check them out below:

Make Your Bed Every Morning

Making your bed in the morning might seem like a small thing. But research shows that it can have a profound effect on how you perform for the rest of the day.

Why making your bed makes such a difference is unknown. But it could be psychological. When you put the duvet in its proper position, you say goodbye to the world of sleep unconsciously, preparing you for the rest of your day.

Clean the Interior and Exterior

Living in a dirty, messy flat or house can take its toll on your well-being. Everything feels out of control. And it takes up precious space in your mind just processing it all.

Try cleaning your home from top to bottom and then observe how it makes you feel. You’ll often find that there’s a big difference in your psychology.

Getting a professional pressure washing service to get rid of exterior grime can also make a big difference. Whenever you approach your house, it’ll feel friendlier, warmer, and more inviting.

Use Sentimental Items

Sometimes, we can allow our interiors to get a little barren. Yes – they provide all the furniture we need. But there’s no joy in them.

Using sentimental items, however, can help. Adding pictures of people you love or family heirlooms can lift the mood and remind you that there’s more to life.

Begin a Gratitude Journal

Being grateful can sometimes be a chore, but it’s incredibly important for our well-being. It works because of how it automatically changes our mindset.

Most people go through life thinking about what they don’t have. So they spend all their time working hard, trying to acquire it. During this process, they have a constant gnawing sense that they’re not getting what they want out of life. And that can make them feel anxious and depressed.

But when you keep a gratitude journal, you change the story. Suddenly, you’re focusing on what you do have in your life. And that can help prevent you from longing for extra stuff – such as a bigger house. It forces you to be present.

Spend Your Decorating Budget on Home Experiences

What’s a home experience, I hear you ask? Essentially, it’s something dynamic that will change how you spend time in your house.

For instance, you could spend your renovation budget on replacing the wallpaper. There’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s not an experience. Much better would be to spend your money on something like an outdoor grill that would allow you to entertain guests or a new cinema system for your living room.
