As a mom, do you ever take the time to go out with friends, family, or even on a date with your husband? Like a mom’s night out?

I do!

I find that to maintain my sanity, a night out every now and then is absolutely necessary. One of my favorite things to do is to go shopping for a great new outfit, put on makeup, and straighten my hair, then go out to dinner with my husband or drinks with friends. While I don’t get to do this as often as I would like (I would choose to go out weekly, at least!) I do enjoy it when I can.

When I do get the chance to go out and do something fun and social that doesn’t include remembering diapers or Hotwheels cars, here are some things I like to do to get ready for my mom’s night:

Having a Mom’s Night

  • Go shopping! – I love to have something new to wear when I have a chance to get out of the house. But I, like I’m sure most everyone is, am on a budget! I’ve made a point to find some inexpensive places where I can shop for fun outfits. Try stores like Francesca’s Collection (great for inexpensive tops, dresses and jewelry) or the sale section on Piperlime.com (hello, Splendid top that is usually $80+ for $29!). If you can’t afford to buy anything new, dig deep into the back of your closet for something you haven’t worn in a long time. It will feel new!

  • Put on makeup – I don’t always wear makeup on a daily basis; as the mom of an infant and a new kindergartener, I just don’t feel like I have time at this point. While I do want to start wearing makeup more everyday, I enjoying putting it on for a night out. A great eyeliner color and some lip gloss can really make me feel put together and like I look great! Having an easy makeup system can help you to get started and not have to think too much about what products to buy!

  • Do something with my hair – I try to make my hair look decent every day, but let’s face it, most days it winds up in a ponytail before 9am. I have long, naturally auburn hair. It looks really pretty down, if I do say so myself. When I am planning to go out, I either take the time to straighten it with my flat iron or try out a new hair style.

I have argued before that moms NEED to take time for themselves. I think that we as moms need to take care of ourselves if we are to be able to take good care of our families. So go shopping, try some new makeup, and get going!
